History and Development

National Taiwan University of Sport (NTUS) was established on June 12, 1961, as Taiwan Provincial Junior College of Physical Education. It was later re-named as National Taiwan Junior College of Physical Education in 1991, then National Taiwan College of Physical Education in 1996. It obtained the university status in 2011 and established its current name.

The first department in Taiwan Provincial Junior College of Physical Education was Department of Physical Education. Department of Leisure Sport and Department of Dance were later established in 1993 and 1994, respectively. When the name was changed to National Taiwan College of Physical Education in 1996, Department of Sport Performance was established. The institution has expanded to sport and health industry to meet the needs in the twenty first century, adding Department of Sport Management in 1999 and Department of Exercise Health Science in 2003. The International Master Program in Sport Management was established in Vietnam in 2007, the first of its kind in Taiwan and Vietnam. The newest program is Department of Sport Information and Communication, established in 2010. As of 2014, NTUS offers 9 undergraduate programs and 8 master programs in 3 colleges: College of Sport Education, College of Sport Performance, and College of Sport Industry.
